The Enterprise Characterization System (ECS) is an advanced web-based input process that guides users through 10 categories of information that comprehensively characterize the enterprise. Throughout the process, ECS utilizes accumulating knowledge of the enterprise to dynamically conform the type and extent of information requested of the enterprise. As a result, enterprises of varying industry type (e.g., biotech, software) and maturity can be characterized in an efficient manner by users. ECS solicits a range of information that is typical to most business plans, financial statements, and other related source documents.

The Enterprise Characterization System provides an automated, efficient input process that pre-populates input fields and allows for the copy-and-paste of information from electronic documents. To accommodate varying sensitivities to certain information, users may forgo input questions labeled “optional” or that feature an "opt out" function. Individual input sections can be completed and saved incrementally during differing sessions, after which a user can submit the plan.
