Universal Devices, Inc.

Encino, CA 91316, US
Energy Storage & Transport Power

We are a bunch of perfectionist geeks passionate about IoT, Automation, Energy Management, and AI. We created the brain for things. We call it ISY. In 2016, we invented the Universal language for Things, NMM and your sidekick at home - ROBIN.

All Things need a Brain in order to talk, to hear, to understand, and to learn. As an example, buildings need a brain to optimize energy usage, automatically run your wishes, respond to your voice commands, speak to you about important events, and seamlessly integrate with other Things without disturbing the expected outcomes. And, in some states, having a brain in the building (energy management system), is the law of the land (Title 24 in CA).

ISY is the Brain for Things and it will be everywhere because Things without Brains are NoThing!

ISY is the only retail OpenADR Certified Automation and Energy Management Controller available on Amazon. Honeywell uses ISY for almost all its OpenADR installations including refrigeration units on rooftops, low-income housing projects, apartment complexes, commercial buildings, and even Amazon warehouses.

100s of large scale Irrigation Pumps in California farms have an OEM version of ISY embedded into their controllers.

We have a contracts with NV Energy; Austin Energy and City of Fort Collins promote ISY as the Smart Grid controller of their choice.

When IoT became a buzzword, we didn’t have to do a thing but to give ourselves high fives, for, what is IoT without Brains?

When Transactive Energy became a buzzword, we won a $3.2M California Energy Commission Grant, supported by Southern California Edison, because Transactive Energy is nothing without Automation and Energy Management of Things. And, Automation and Energy Management of Things require Brains.

Our latest invention (Patent Pending) is the Universal Language for Things. It liberates Things to freely express themselves and talk to one another, be sold through Thingy Store, seamlessly integrate into an ecosystem and contribute to energy conservation/management/production.. A must for IoT in general and energy management in particular.

Chief Executive Officer
Michel Kohanim

From vision to reality: Universal Devices, Inc. was the first company to bring affordable, standalone, and web based home automation to the market. When Michel joined in 2007, the vision was just a set of slides and disparate source code in different computers. By the end of 2007, ISY-26 was an actual web-based, autonomous/standalone, and retail home automation product sold by SmartHome for $199.00.

Since then, Universal Devices has become the premier energy management, automation, and IoT platform/framework sold through retail outlets in North and parts of South/Central America.. with a $3.2M CEC grant, utility contracts, OEM relationships and continuous improvements and inventions, Michel not only has proven his technical abilities and vision but also his business execution capabilities.

Michel has Masters in AI and worked for IBM's CIO organization for 11 years as an Architect.. He's also the chairman of IPSO Alliance's Semantic Working Group.
